In order for a rescue to qualify for a CARA grant, the following qualifications must be met (with no exceptions):
  • The rescue may not be a recipient of any government grants.
  • CARA must have a copy of both the rescue's adoption application and contract.
  • The rescue must have a web site, either through Petfinder or as an independently sponsored web site.
  • The rescue must provide a letter of reference from a fully-licensed and operating veterinarian.
  • It must be understood that CARA cannot pay the entire cost of every medical procedure or need.  CARA directors will look at every case individually and evaluate the available grant money available on a case by case basis.
  • It must be understood that CARA can make payments to veterinarians only and the veterinarian must be willing to accept a CARA check (credit card payment is not available.)

Please do not complete an application if any of the following statements apply to your situation.  There will be no exceptions.

  • My application is for routine care, such as spay/neuter, vaccines, heartworm preventative, routine office visit, boarding, grooming, food, etc. (When in doubt, please ask - we'd be happy to answer your questions.)
  • My foster cocker has already had his/her veterinary care, but I need help with the unpaid bill.
  • The bill has already been paid and I would like CARA to reimburse me.
  • My veterinarian is not willing to accept payment by check from CARA after my foster cocker is released and an itemized bill is sent to CARA.
  • There is only a possibility that my foster cocker will need this procedure.
  • I breed animals.
  • NOTE: Estimates must include any discount you will be receiving for services.
